His broadsides appeared in outlets such as PM, Art News, and Transformations. For this exhibition Robert Snowden and Scott Ponik bring together a selection of these comics in a single table size print. The retrospective was first shown at The Chrysler Series in New York, and will go from here to Kunstverein Amsterdam. \u00a0Robert Snowden is a writer and curator who lives in New York. Scott Ponik is a graphic designer in Portland, Oregon. L\u2019art n\u2019est pas un \u00ab\u00a0moyen de gagner sa vie\u00a0\u00bb, ou une fa\u00e7on de vivre sa vie\u00a0\u00bb, et un artiste qui d\u00e9die sa vie \u00e0 son art ou son art \u00e0 sa vie fait ployer sa vie sous son art et son art sous sa vie. Un art qui est une histoire de vie ou de mort n\u2019est ni vrai ni libre.<br \/>\nLa seule menace contre l\u2019art v\u00e9ritable, c\u2019est la tentative sans cesse r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9e de le subvertir en l\u2019utilisant \u00e0 des fins autres ou en l\u2019assujettissant \u00e0 certaines valeurs. Le vrai combat ne se situe pas entre l\u2019art et le non-art mais entre l\u2019art v\u00e9ritable et l\u2019art frelat\u00e9, entre l\u2019art pur et l\u2019art Action-Assemblage, entre l\u2019art abstrait et l\u2019anti-art surr\u00e9aliste-expressionniste, entre l\u2019art libre et l\u2019art servile. L\u2019art abstrait poss\u00e8de sa propre int\u00e9grit\u00e9 et ne doit pas \u00eatre \u00ab\u00a0int\u00e9gr\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb par autrui \u00e0 autre chose. Tout art abstrait qui se combine, se m\u00e9lange, s\u2019ajoute, se dilue, s\u2019exploite, se diffuse et se vulgarise perd son essence et prive l\u2019artiste de sa conscience d\u2019artiste. L\u2019art est libre mais non accessible \u00e0 tous.<br \/>\n[\u2026]<br \/>\nLa seule t\u00e2che pour un artiste v\u00e9ritable, la seule peinture \u00e0 faire, c\u2019est la peinture d\u2019une toile d\u2019un format unique \u2014selon un m\u00eame projet et un seul moyen formel, une m\u00eame couleur monochrome, une m\u00eame division lin\u00e9aire dans chaque direction, une m\u00eame sym\u00e9trie, une m\u00eame texture, un seul mouvement du pinceau \u00e0 main lev\u00e9e, selon un m\u00eame rythme, de fa\u00e7on \u00e0 tout fondre dans la dissolution et l\u2019indivisibilit\u00e9, \u00e0 fondre chaque toile dans une uniformit\u00e9 et une non-irr\u00e9gularit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rales.
